My paper and canvas pieces are my most material driven work. Each canvas is heavily layered with high quality tissue paper to create subtle surface texture. The canvas is then staged outside with ice and dye strategically placed on the surface. As the ice melts, it moves the dye along the surface, creating depth with intricate bleed patterns and soft curves. Once dry, the canvas then comes back into the studio where I accent the natural dye process with acrylic paint and/or precious metal leaf.
I have also used a similar process to treat walls in retail shops to create a focal piece on which to display product.
