The most co-creative process I use, my resin pieces begin with a collaboration with a master craftsman who custom builds each frame in Topping, Va. He sources the highest quality wood that will not only “frame” the finished artwork, but indeed, is a piece of artwork in it’s own right. Each frame becomes an irreplaceable element of the finished piece.
The resin pouring process begins with an inspiration image AND a total release of what the finished piece will look like. My earliest pieces were inspired by animals (tortoise shells, zebras, bee hives). The flowing nature of my process began my next body of pieces inspired by aerial views of water landscapes. With years of studying each piece and learning the nuanced characteristics of the resin, I started a new body of resin work in 2019 inspired by a bouquet of flowers, combining the etherial and flowing qualities of resin with the linear quality of hand-drawn elements.
